Template principle

Minimal reveals rely on composition rather than effects: one focal point, one masked region, and enough negative space to make the change feel deliberate.

Starting settings

Dial in the effect, then adapt it to your source.

Reveal strength58%
Blur2 px
Contrast+6
Saturation-12

These values are a starting point, not a fixed recipe. Image brightness, edge detail, and destination compression can change the best result.

Four-step workflow

Build a reveal that still reads before it changes.

  1. 01

    Choose one subject

Start with a quiet image that has a clear focal point and useful negative space.

  2. 02

    Paint precisely

Use a smaller brush and follow the natural contour of the detail being withheld.

  3. 03

    Reduce the effect

Lower strength and saturation until the timeline state still feels designed.

  4. 04

    Inspect the edges

Remove halos around the mask before downloading the final PNG.

Visual direction

Make the change feel discovered, not announced.

A minimal reveal is useful for editorial photography, packaging, architecture, typography, and subtle before-and-after details. The timeline image should look complete enough to stand on its own, while the expanded state introduces a meaningful second reading.

Negative space is part of the effect. Do not fill every quiet area with explanation or decoration. Let the hidden detail carry the contrast, and use the post copy to provide context outside the image.

Tuning

Small adjustments preserve premium-looking source material.

Start with lower reveal strength than the other templates. A gentle decrease in saturation or contrast can separate the two states without producing an obvious filter. Keep blur close to zero when product edges and typography need to remain crisp.

For white or pale backgrounds, inspect the transparent edge against both light and dark surfaces. A soft gray halo may be invisible in the editor but noticeable after the image is published.

Template questions

What images work best with the minimal template?

Editorial photos, packaging, typography, architecture, and compositions with a single focal detail work especially well.

How much blur should I use?

Begin at zero to two pixels. Minimal artwork usually benefits from tonal change rather than visible blur.

Can I use a white background?

Yes. Inspect mask edges carefully because pale halos are easier to notice after publishing.

Why does the reveal feel weak?

Increase contrast slightly or choose a more meaningful hidden detail before increasing every effect parameter.
